Marie Curie is the UK’s leading charity for people with any terminal illness. During her six-year stint as Yorkshire Media Volunteer, Jo’s focus centred on raising the profile of the charity, increasing awareness of the work of the Marie Curie nurses, flying the flag for the team of volunteers, celebrating fundraising success and encouraging others to support the charity. And giving a voice to those who have experienced terminal illness through a series of sensitive case studies, allowing people the opportunity to share their story.
Jo was responsible for the development and implementation of communication strategies for leading campaigns such as the Great Daffodil Appeal (GDA) and the Blooming Great Tea Party.
She commandeered acclaimed actress, scriptwriter and director, Kay Mellor, to visit the Bradford Hospice and launch the GDA 2018 and was the brains behind Marie Curie’s Blooming Great Bake Off – a cake making contest at Carlton Towers judged by Lord and Lady Gerald Fitzalan Howard and a WI veteran. Jo also worked with York College students to launch a fashion brand dedicated to the charity and a local baker who created amazing daffodil cakes each year for the GDA.
A series of photocalls, case studies, press releases, articles and profiles led to significant coverage across the Yorkshire publications generating headlines.
